I wouldn't say I abandoned it, I just don't have the time to post on different Forums anymore and since there really hasn't been any real progress on the actual body restoration nobody's really missing much.

A nice package arrived Yesterday from S.F. Restorations and I couldn't be happier, I know some of you are familiar with his work and use Stephan before but some folks might not have seen his beautiful craftsmanship before. The heater motor was the last piece keeping me from finishing my heater box assembly, so now I can put this piece on the shelf with all the others waiting it's turn for install. I still have to apply the white date code stamps but the originals are in pretty good condition so I might just leave them as is. Enjoy

Yesterday I started stripping off the black paint on the 3400044 leaf springs that I recently picked up and found that someone had painted them white at one time and under that was bare metal. I soaked the front eyelet in Evaporust overnight and it brought out the paint daubs...looks like a yellow and white swipe on each, I love finding factory paint marks !!! So my plan is to take them to the local spring shop and have them both re-arched so they are even, disassemble and sandblast and rebuild with all the correct zinc liners, spring pads and bushings.
My question is: What finish looks closest to a bare/natural finish set of leaf springs? I had some parts powder coated in cast steel but doesn't quite look correct.
The first picture is before I soaked them and in the last
picture you can see the soak line where it made the steel look black but revealed the paint marks.

Very nice looking finished parts. On the leaf springs, Eastwood has a bare metal finish paint that I have used which looks good and goes on nice. I guess I have seen the leaf springs with a bare metal finish and also some with almost a flat black paint.

I have decided to powder coat my leaf springs, my Powder Coater showed my some parts he did in a color called "Black Jack" and since I'm not 100% certain they were bare, since there are some small flakes of blackand I cant tell if they were above or below the white I think this will be a good maintenance free choice. I'm not going for O.E. concourse but want thing to resemble factory somewhat.

Here's my attempt at restoring the lower control arms. Overall I'm happy with the way the simulated dipped Cosmoline coating turned out, I used Krylon Battery Protector, I didn't want to apply more coats for fear of it turning to dark, I also tried to accurately duplicate the blue color on the Drivers side height adjuster by mixing a few different blues together, the Passenger side appeared to be Tor red so that's what I used. Enjoy the pics

PS....The runs are intentional to simulate the dipping process, I'm not that bad of a painter for the record.

My shaker trim ring had all but two of the studs broken off...they were that way when I owned the car the first time back in 1990, so here is my attempted to repair it. I drilled and tapped the hole locations and then I cut and installed 10-24 studs that were the same length as the originals and secured them with JB Weld so they are locked in and wont back out.

Hey Ross, 2 days ago I finally finished the (201 pages) Duster thread on ABO. Great reading for me off an on over the past few years. Awesomely "insane" work you did on that car. Really digging the `Cuda thread . Became a EBO member yesterday just to follow along. Love the car. Will be subscribing to this and the Ebodies.org threads -> don't want to miss a thing. Oh, MHO, I never cared much for a vinyl top, but I think you should include when you do the resto. It'll look awesome with the billboard and the Tor Red. Keep on keeping on.
